October, 2013 @ ORLANDO FILM FESTIVAL !
I thought I'd bring my kids to show them "what dad does," but they enjoyed climbing on the seats during Q&A and eating sweet tarts a little more...
Now 91, the subject of film FRED GUENTERT comes out to see DIE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN on the big screen! He said the last time he was in a movie theater, he saw ARMAGEDDON. I hope DIE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN lived up!
October 3, 2013 - INDIE MEMPHIS!
JUST ABOUT FAMOUS (a short I made) played at the 2010 INIDE MEMPHIS FILM FESTIVAL and I couldn't attend...I won't make that same mistake this time as I've heard nothing but great things about this fest.
The film screens on November 3 @ 12:30 at the STUDIO ON THE SQUARE before the feature film FUREVER.

Back in 2010, I had the pleasure of having a short doc I co-directed (JUST ABOUT FAMOUS) play at Sidewalk. It was a great festival with fantastic programming, unique parties and a great mix of filmmakers and industry. I'm very excited to have DIE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN playing there once again (and excited about attending once again!)

FILM THREAT reviews DIE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN: On the one hand, it’s a subject with a nice hook, guy makes his own ancient Egyptian-style coffin, but the moments that resonate are when we realize how like Fred we are. On a simply human level, sure, but more so when we think of our fascinations or obsessions. Maybe we can’t take it with us, as they say, but what we leave behind can be an expression of what we carried through our lives…

March 20, 2013 – INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL BOSTON!
Two great things, one night. I was watching THE WALKING DEAD, the episode where Rick encounters Morgan (from season 1) arguably the best episode of the season, but I also got an email informing me that DIE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN was going to be included in the 2013 IFFBOSTON. That was a good night….

March 1, 2013 – INDIE GRITS FILM FESTIVAL!
This is kind of a funny turn of events: My power had been shut off, because you know, I’m a starving artist (cough, cough) filmmaker. So my wife headed to the bank to deposit money to pay the bill and get it back on….I was pretty annoyed. She told me that I got a letter from a film festival, “Do you want me to open it?” she said. “Sure,” I replied unenthusiastically, “It’s probably just a rejection letter, make my day worse.” So she began reading it, “Dear Matt, You are great. So is your film…” Ha! Not a rejection letter! And so I celebrated, without power…
*the power has since been restored.

May, 2012 – PRODUCTION!
It took me awhile to get a hold of Fred, but I finally did and seeing the coffin in person was more amazing than I ever thought. Shooting it was quite fun as well.
